Bilingual Youth Oral Health Project

A student-led bilingual oral health prototype for students and families, built around three everyday questions: how to brush well, how to handle sweet drinks, and which early signs should move help forward sooner.

Built around the parts of oral health that show up most often at home and at school.
English carries the public reading layer, with Chinese support where families need to read together.
Public sources stay visible, and the page stays firmly educational rather than diagnostic.
Project 项目

Built around the decisions people hesitate over most.

For many students and families, confusion starts with routine, drinks, and the moment a small problem stops feeling small.

!

Scattered advice

Advice often arrives in fragments: a school reminder here, a clinic poster there, and a lot of assumptions in between.

What remains is often partial knowledge, not a confident next step.

Why bilingual support

Oral health decisions often move between students and adults. Bilingual support lowers the barrier for shared reading and follow-up.

English stays public-facing, with Chinese support where shared family understanding matters.

Why this audience

The project begins where habits repeat most often: morning routines, school days, after-school drinks, and family decisions about follow-up.

That keeps the scope sharper and easier to test in real settings.
Structure 结构

What stays fixed.

3

Three topics first 先做三个主题

High-frequency, easy to misread, and useful right away.

Routine before urgency

Start with what can change daily, then move toward what should shorten the time to action.

EN

English-led, Chinese-supported

Public readability first, with Chinese support where shared family understanding matters most.

§

Visible boundaries

Sources and safety notes stay close because the page is educational, not diagnostic.

Extension rules

If more topics are added, the rules stay the same.

A

New topics should still help students and families make everyday or near-term decisions.

M

Keep the module pattern

Each new topic should still carry a core idea, a common mistake, a next step, and a clear action boundary.

S

Keep sources traceable

New content should still be checked against public guidance, with the reference trail staying visible.

Preserve bilingual readability

English stays concise for public reading, while Chinese support stays useful for family explanation and shared understanding.

Paths 路径

One project, two entry points.

Students often start from what they can notice directly. Families more often start from routines, defaults, and follow-up timing.

Student path

Start with what a student can notice directly: routine, drink habits, and the signs worth telling an adult about.

Direct daily actions
Step 1 · Routine

Check whether brushing is happening twice daily, long enough, and without rushing the back teeth.

Step 2 · Drinks

Notice what is being sipped through the day, not only what looks obviously sugary.

Step 3 · Tell someone early

If there is pain, swelling, bleeding, or injury, do not keep guessing alone.

Modules 模块

Three modules carry the current build.

Each one keeps the same pattern: core idea, common mistake, next step, and action boundary.

Why the pattern stays

The repeated structure keeps the page easy to scan now and easier to extend later without changing tone or logic.

The first job is to help people do the next sensible thing.
Easy to compare便于比较 Users do not need to relearn how each section works.
New topics already have a stable pattern to follow.

01 · Brush well, not just for longer 01 ·

Public oral health guidance commonly recommends brushing twice a day for about 2 minutes with fluoride toothpaste and cleaning every surface of the teeth.

Gentle, complete brushing matters more than brushing harder.
Rushing the back teeth, gumline, or stopping too early.
Keep the same brushing order each time so fewer areas are missed.
If brushing hurts, bleeding repeats, or a mouth problem keeps returning, move to the signs module sooner.

02 · Sweet drinks matter over the whole day 02 · 甜饮的影响,常常发生在一整天里

Risk is shaped by frequency as well as sugar content. Juice, sports drinks, flavoured milk, iced tea, and bubble tea can matter when they are sipped again and again across the day.

Drink choices
How often you sip can matter as much as what you drink.
Only counting soft drinks and ignoring other sweet drinks.
Keep water as the usual default and keep sweet drinks closer to mealtimes.
If discomfort, sensitivity, or other mouth signs are already showing up, drink choices are no longer the only issue to watch.

03 · Know which signs should not wait 03 ·

Pain, swelling, repeated bleeding, injury, or symptoms that keep returning are often the point where “wait and see” stops being the best option.

Action boundary
Some mouth and tooth problems are easier to manage when noticed and shared earlier.
Common mistake常见误区Waiting until pain becomes severe before telling anyone.
Write down what is happening and tell a parent, carer, or trusted adult early.
Use the helper below when the next level of follow-up is no longer obvious.
Signs helper

If the next step feels unclear, sort the signs here.

Three follow-up levels

Use this when the listed warning signs are not happening right now.
Tell an adult soon尽快告诉大人 Use this when symptoms are noticeable, repeating, or beginning to affect comfort.
Use this when swelling, breathing or swallowing difficulty, or more serious injury is involved.
What fits best right now?
Choose one or more. The result updates right away.
Educational only. Not diagnosis.
Next step 下一步

Choose what fits best.

The helper sorts the next step into three levels: keep watching, tell an adult soon, or seek urgent help.

If a situation feels unsafe or is rapidly getting worse, do not rely on this page alone.
Quick guide

If only one screen stays with the reader, keep these first.

A printable one-page handout is also available for quick sharing or saving as PDF.

Brush twice a day每天刷两次牙

Use fluoride toothpaste, aim for about 2 minutes, and do not rush the back teeth or the gumline.

Treat sweet drinks carefully

Pay attention to what is being sipped through the day. Water is still the safest everyday default.

Act earlier on warning signs

Pain, swelling, repeated bleeding, lasting sensitivity, or dental injury should lead to earlier follow-up, not endless waiting.

Three likely questions.

Why are there separate paths for students and families? +

Because the same topic often begins in two slightly different places. Students more often start from what they can notice directly. Families more often start from routines, defaults, and follow-up decisions.

Why is English the main reading layer? +

Because the page is public-facing first. Chinese support stays in place so the same ideas are easier to explain at home.

Is the signs helper a diagnosis tool? +

No. It only sorts common warning-sign situations into three follow-up levels. It does not replace adult judgment or professional care.
